Offerings in Glasgow

The arrival of the pilgrims Saturday 30th October

On Saturday the 30th October many of the pilgrims, walkers and cyclists who have been making their way to Glasgow will arrive together and walk through the city.  If you would like to join the Camino to COP for the day you need to come out to Blantyre for 0800, or meet us on route.  The whatsapp group is the best place to find out information about joining up with us.

Daily Check ins with XR Buddhists

Check in with the Buddhists who are in Glasgow, an opportunity for you to check in with the group, and hear about what’s happening that day and where people want to place their energy. Join the Telegram to find out where that will be each day.

Barclays Buddhists and Blackbirds: Bank action Week One Thursday 4th November @11.30am

Join XR Buddhists and the Blackbirds for a day of action at Barclays at 11.30am on 4th November. We will be sitting to bear witness to Barclays leading role in promoting fossil fuel use around the world. The protest will cover two Barclays sites with a break in between. We will be performing a guided sitting mudra meditation in the company of the blackbirds who will be flying in to translate the human offering into avian language. We will gather before and after the action to meditate, to connect to each other and to our motivation for action.

Bring a meditation cushion and PLEASE WEAR BLACK if possible to enhance the visual impact.

Contact: Shantigharba who can add you to the Signal chat group where you can receive up to date information. (You will need the Signal app for this).

The gathering place for the action is yet to be confirmed.

Global Justice March Saturday 6th November

Touching the Earth Sunday 7th November 1300 to 1400, Stewart Memorial Fountain, Kelvingrove Park.

Come to a regenerative Buddhist event based on the Plum Village Touching the Earth practice. It is open to people of all faiths and none and full explanation will be provided of how to do the earth touching practice. There will also be an opportunity for check ins and check outs, silent meditation and walking meditation. Touching the Earth involves (if you are comfortable with this) a full body prostration, so if it is wet you may want to bring a mat or something to lie on!

The Earth Vigil 1100 to 1700 everyday between 31st October and 12th November (not 6th November).

Earth vigils are an opportunity to sit and reflect with those of all or no faiths. We usually sit in silence, but sometimes there will be prayer, song, guided meditation chanting and more. We would encourage you to make yourself comfortable when sitting, that may involve a wee camping chair, and warm and waterproof clothing. Some people are big fans of ponchos. There is a very low risk of arrest, our intention is that the vigil is a peaceful and lawful activity. If you have any other questions about the vigil then please join the Earth Vigil Telegram group and ask!  There will also be a board at the Quaker Meeting House which will have the details on it.

There will also be an overnight vigil on the eve of COP (ie, night of the 30th October) and eve of the ending (night of the 11th November) in Glasgow. There is also an overnight vigil on the night of the 11th in Bristol. And you would be welcome to join these too.

Coffee at COP 0930 to 1030 Monday, Wednesday and Fridays during COP at the Quaker Meeting House

If you are looking for something warm and dry to do at COP, come and join us for ‘Coffee at COP’ (spoiler alert: you need to bring your own coffee, but we provide a wee nibble!) and see a variety of faith speakers, including Buddhists speak about the climate crisis. You need to register for these events at the eventbrite links which will be up on this page in due course.
